Sexton Ming is rare breed of (transvestite) artist who not only paints but is also a musician and writer. He has a unique and uncompromising style which has secured his well established position outside the mainstream.
In 1979, Ming along with Billy Childish, Miriam Carney, Rob Earl, Bill Lewis and Charles Thonson formed The Medway Poets, a punk inspired poetry performance group. This group went on to form a core part of the initial Stuckists art movement.
Although a member of the Stuckists for a few years, Ming left in 2005 to throw in his lot in with The Aquarium in search of some "action". Since then he has exhibited in both London and Berlin, started a career in the limited edition print market, done some amazing illustrations for a Tindersticks video and has had a book of his drawings published.
Along side this Ming also runs Rim Records. "Rim Records was developed to avoid the powerful people of the big record companies that put out recordings based on demographics rather than quality. I was left with no alternative other than to ride my own efforts... Ride The Rim".
Ming's own brand of subversive art may offend you, may make you laugh and may make you nod knowingly...
